The National Reserve "Saint Sophia of Kyiv" is one of Ukraine's grandest historical and architectural complexes and a UNESCO World Heritage Site. Its centerpiece is Saint Sophia Cathedral, one of Ukraine's most significant architectural and historical landmarks, constructed in 1037 by the order of Prince Yaroslav the Wise.
The cathedral holds great importance in the history of Kievan Rus as it served as the main church of the state, a burial site for grand princes, and a center for chronicle writing until the 13th century. Combining Byzantine and Baroque architectural styles, the cathedral's interior amazes visitors with mosaics and frescoes from the 11th–18th centuries. Among its most famous mosaics is the Oranta depiction on the interior dome.
The reserve includes 77 monuments, such as the bell tower, the Metropolitan's House, the Church of Cyril, and other sites. It regularly hosts exhibitions, tours, and programs to preserve and promote Ukrainian heritage.
