Church of the Nativity of Christ

0 19 0

The Church of the Nativity of Christ is an Orthodox church located in the historic Podil district. Built between 1809 and 1814 based on the design of architect Andriy Melenskyi, the church was destroyed in 1936 and rebuilt in the early 2000s. Its interior was recreated to be as close as possible to the original. This church is notable for being the site of Taras Shevchenko's funeral service. The post-mortem mask of the Kobzar is preserved here, and on Shevchenko Days, a memorial service is held in honor of the national hero. Divine services are also streamed live on the church's official social media pages.
