‘Motherland’ is a symbol of victory and the world's first fully welded metal sculpture. The monument was opened in 1981 and is located on the high right bank of the Dnipro River on the territory of the National Museum of the History of Ukraine in World War II. It is the tallest monumental sculpture in Europe. According to its creators, it embodies the indomitable spirit of the people who were able to withstand and win World War II. Motherland-Mother performs the same function today. The height of the monument with its pedestal reaches 102 metres. The steel figure of a woman holds a 16-metre sword in her raised right hand and a renewed shield with the Ukrainian trident in her left hand.
