The Boat is a sculptural composition dedicated to the founders of Kyiv, erected in 1982 in honour of the 1500th anniversary of the city. The monument is located on the Dnipro embankment in Navodnytskyi Park, halfway between the Dnipro metro station and the Paton Bridge. Kyi is the legendary founder of Kyiv, the Prince of Polans, one of the three brothers (Kyi, Shchek, and Khoryv, they also had a sister Lybid), who, according to the Primary Chronicle, lived in the Dnipro Mountains and built a city named after their older brother, Kyiv, on the high right bank of the Dnipro. The sculpture depicts them sailing on a boat along the Dnieper River. The monument to Kyiv's founders is one of the favorite spots for locals, visitors, especially newlyweds who traditionally have their wedding photos taken here.
