Kyiv-Mohyla Academy

0 16 0

The Kyiv-Mohyla Academy traces its roots back to the founding of the Kyiv Brotherhood School on October 15, 1615. In 1632, under the guidance of Metropolitan Petro Mohyla, it united with the Lavra School and was granted college status. It was then named the Kyiv-Mohyla College (Academy) in his honor, a name that has endured in history. This marked the establishment of the first such institution within the Grand Duchy of Lithuania, significantly influencing the dissemination of knowledge and spiritual culture among the Cossacks. From its inception, the academy actively championed and cultivated the Ukrainian language, literature, and culture, producing and distributing Ukrainian literary and religious works. The true gem of the Kyiv-Mohyla Academy is the Collegium – the central building, erected in the Baroque style in the 18th century. This building is the oldest academic structure in Kyiv that has survived. Its impressive facade is adorned with exquisite decorative ornaments, transforming the Collegium into a true masterpiece of architectural art. The Baroque refinement and complexity of structures captivate every visitor, giving a unique feeling of touching history. The educational institution cooperates with 120 universities from 35 countries worldwide and is a member of the European University Association. The institution's structure includes a scientific library, an information and computer center, an e-learning center, and a cultural and artistic center. The Kyiv-Mohyla Academy Publishing House operates at the National University.
