National Bank of Ukraine

0 20 0

The National Bank of Ukraine building is an architectural landmark in Kyiv, dating back to the early 20th century. The bank's structure embodies the experiments of the chief architect, Oleksandr Kobelev, who combined Northern Italian Gothic and early Florentine Renaissance styles. The National Bank of Ukraine began its operations in 1991. A defining moment for the Ukrainian banking system was 1996, as the monetary reform was implemented in the country, and its own currency, the hryvnia, was introduced. Today, it isn't easy to find a building in Kyiv that has not changed its purpose at least once in its century-long history. The main building of the National Bank of Ukraine is one of such structures. Today, the bank actively develops its own numismatic program dedicated to celebrating anniversaries, memorable events, and prominent figures of Ukraine and the world. All numismatic products, from commemorative coins to souvenir banknotes, are produced at the Mint of the National Bank. Among the various products, you can find medals, silver replicas of banknotes, silver souvenir hryvnias of the Kyiv Rus type, sets of circulation and small-change coins, commemorative banknotes, and uncut banknote sheets. Commemorative coins minted from precious and non-precious metals in limited editions are of particular value. In 2025, the National Bank of Ukraine, in collaboration with the National Center "Ukrainian House", will hold the exhibition-expedition "Hryvnia. More Than Money". The exhibition is dedicated to the history of Ukraine's national currency and its impact on the country's development.
